Meet Mark
Perhaps I should introduce myself first? I have over 20 years of experience in retail and account management across Northern Europe. I moved to Finland 12 years ago and live in Seinäjoki (South Ostrobothnia) with my wife, Satu, and our collection of teenagers and Boris the Dog. In my spare time I… no, you’re right, there is no spare time!
Maybe you heard one of my other podcasts?
- Explore Finland Radio Show about life in Finland; culture, sport, nature, events, activities and more.
- Finnish Football Show – where I and three co-hosts talk about football in Finland.

What is the International Business from Finland Podcast About?
The title of this episode is International Business, Entrepreneurship in Finland and Immigrant Integration. I thought I’d explain how I came to be at the centre of these areas of business in Finland. Right now I have two companies, Xport, which helps Finnish companies grow the export sales. This is a Limited Company, in which I have a 12% share. Much of Xport’s work is project-based, working with both groups of companies and individual businesses.
This show is to highlight the work I do through my own company, Mark Wiltshear TMI – the TMI stands for toiminimi (sole trader or self-employed). I’ll explain in another episode how I came to start another company, however, since I did so I’ve been trying to find work for myself directly. Work that doesn’t compete directly with Xport.
I’ve been focusing on offering myself to companies that need some additional, hands-on work but aren’t yet ready to employ someone full-time. This could be sales work, marketing work, or even simply sharing the workload of busy company owners. Think about it like this: if you had a spare pair of hands, what would be the next task you would focus on? That is what I can do for you. For example, I’ve been working with one company on implementing a sales and marketing plan for Europe. I’m also available for voiceover work, English conversation coaching, podcast presenting and business mentoring.
Over the coming episodes, I’ll share my experiences in these areas. Whether it’s the work I’m doing or events I’ve attended. Of course, everything will be anonymous, no sensitive company info, but sharing the lessons I’ve learned. Because there’s always something new to learn.
Through my work with Xport, I’ve been blessed to meet a lot of other foreigners who have moved to Finland. Some are students, some are working, some are caring for their families and some are entrepreneurs. This network changes as people move away and new people come, and this has made me aware that more help is needed to help these people settle into working life and integrate into Finnish society. Together with a couple of friends, we have identified another business opportunity. But more of that in a later show too.
The shows may be a solo episode from me, or an interview with other immigrant entrepreneurs in Finland, or maybe I’ll take my phone and mobile recorder out to some events I attended – I really don’t know exactly where this show will take me. But I’m really happy to have you along for the ride.
